3R GOLD
(A Game Editor for Avalon Hill's Computer
Third Reich™)

3R GOLD (3RG), pronounced Third Reich Gold, allows Computer
Third Reich players to change many of the switches and numbers in their
Computer Third Reich games. It does this by changing these numbers in the
saved game files. You can change switches such as fixing the Suez Canal
or turning the AI off. You can change numbers like BRP levels, Growth %'s,
BRP Bases, Per Turn Spending Limits, as well as change the numbers of Naval
Factors, Air Factors, or number of land units that the 6 major countries
have (You cannot change the type of units, just the number of each type).

The instructions show you how to use these numbers to:
-
Fix Bugs in the Game - One of the worst bugs is that the computer
takes away 25 BRP's from the Russian twice when Eastern Europe is lost,
once when the last city is captured and once when the Russians fail to
retake the city. The loss of 25 extra BRP's during the dark days of 1941
can be fatal to the Russian. Now, you can simply add them back with 3RG.
Using 3RG, you can also fix bugs such as having the USA enter at the correct
time and have a proper Siberian Transfer.
-
Help Play PBEM Games Better - Have you ever been playing a PBEM
game and forgot to turn the Opponents AI off? Ack! What do you do? If you
do the turn over, you can get much different results. Now you can simply
turn off the AI on your saved game using 3RG. Using 3RG both players can
now build SW in secret. For example, in the 1940 YSS, the German builds
his SW and builds max ASW for the Allied Player (assuming the Allied player
wanted maximum SW builds). Then, before he does his Spring turn, the Allied
Player simply uses 3RG to subtract as many ASW factors as he wants and
adds a like number of SAC factors. Of course, he doesn't have to change
it at all. Now both sides have a secret number of SW builds and types.
-
Restore Rule 33 - The Computer version of Third Reich deletes all
of Rule 33. If players want, they can now use 33.5 (Intelligence), 33.6
(Foreign Aid), and 33.7 (Turkey as a Minor British Ally).
-
Variants - The Computer version of Third Reich also doesn't include
the variant chits (Rules 33.1 - 33.4). Now, since players can change so
many numbers using 3RG, players can now use the variant chits. 10 variants
for each side have been picked and explained from the 20 available for
each side in the 4th edition rules.
The instructions (VQ #2) fully explain how to implement the above changes.
The CONTENTS of the instructions are:
-
INSTALLATION AND USAGE
-
INDEX OF CHANGEABLE PARAMETERS
-
SQUISHING BUGS
-
PBEM AIDS
-
RESTORING RULE 33
-
VARIANTS
3RG can also be used to make any variants of your own. With over 75
changeable numbers and switches, you can try any number of cool variants
knocking around in your head. 3R Gold is for
the Campaign Game, Only.
3R GOLD comes on a CD. It is DOS based, so you must have a DOS computer.
If your computer can play Computer Third Reich, it should have no problem
with 3RG. The CD must be in the CD drive when 3RG is used.
